KEPLER REVIEW:
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
It takes an admirable boldness to put a 12 minute song as the second track on your major label debut, especially one filled with Jethro Tull sounding organ fills. On the Decemberists fourth album, Colin Meloy's sea shanties, which began to be grating on Picaresque, benefit from some stronger songwriting. It's an admirable accomplishment to evoke Jethro Tull, the Pogues and Murmur-era R.E.M. in one record. Here's hoping he tries something new on album number five.
